A NEW Year market held in the village of Alstonefield last Saturday proved highly successful.

The event, which was held at the village hall between 10am and 3pm on Saturday, attracted a range of stalls selling many goods, including antiques, vintage clothes and jewellery, craft, hand-crafted cards, books, bric-a-brac, home-made cakes, and tombola.

Entertainment throughout the day was provided by The Manifold Trio, who played festive and popular melodies.

Refreshments were served from the kitchen in aid of the village hall redecoration fund.

The market day made a total profit of £679 for the hall funds.

A member of the organising village hall committee, Margaret Cohen, said: "There was a range of items being sold by individual stallholders and the Manifold Trio played all through the event.

"The day made £679 for the hall, which will go to help decorate the premises. The individual stallholders also made their own profit.

"The hall was still decorated and the whole day had a festive feeling, which everyone seemed to enjoy."
