MP for Cheadle and Stone Bill Cash has welcomed new figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance in the Stone constituency has fallen by 280 over the last year (Office for National Statistics, 11 June 2014).
The number of unemployed claimants in Stone constituency in May 2014 was 496.
This is the 599th highest of the 650 UK constituencies (where 1st = highest rate of unemployment, 650th = lowest rate of unemployment).
Since the election, the number of people on unemployment benefits has fallen by 439.
Jobs are being created within the Stone constituency with companies like JCB, which is to build a manufacturing plant in Cheadle as part of its £150m expansion.
Mr Cash said: "It's great news. That's 280 people no longer needing benefits to get by, with a more secure, brighter future ahead.
"With the economy now recovering from the Great Recession, and businesses like JCB creating jobs, it's clear the Conservatives' long-term economic plan is working.
"We need to keep working through the plan, which is delivering growth and jobs, so that more people who want to work hard and get on can have the security of a regular pay packet."
