AN MP has welcomed the number of unemployed claimants in his constituency falling in the last month.
Figures show the number of people out of a job in Stone MP Bill Cash's constituency, which covers Cheadle, was 438 – 58 lower than May 2014.
This represents a rate of 1.1 per cent of the economically active population aged 16 to 64 – the 47th lowest rate of all 650 UK constituencies. Nationally, unemployment fell by 121,000 to 2.12 million in the three months to May.
The rate of unemployment was down to 6.5 per cent from 6.6 per cent in the three months to April. Mr Cash said: "With the economy now recovering and businesses creating jobs, it's clear the Conservatives' long-term economic plan is working."
