Leek & District Darts League
THE new season is about to get under way, with 58 teams contesting this year’s competitions in six divisions.
New teams include Horseshoe (Longnor), and Leek pubs Bird in Hand, Priory and Fountain.
September 23 is the starting date, with preliminary rounds of the divisional cups.The draw is as follows:- Division One Wellington 2 v Snooker Club 1; Dyers Arms 4 v Dyers Arms 2.
Division Two Stafford Arms v Ashcombe Park; Benks 2 v Rose & Crown 1.
Division Three Flying Horse 1 v Ashcombe Park 3; Horseshoe (Longnor) v Windmill.
Division Four Ball Haye Green Club v Blue Mugge 2; Benks 3 v Pride of the Moorlands.
Division Five Bird in Hand v Snooker Club 2.
Division Six Flying Horse 3 v Flying Horse 2.
League Cup preliminary round matches will be played on Tuesday, September 3.
The first monthly league meeting of the new season will be held at Leek Central Club on Tuesday, October 1, starting at 8.30pm.
* A LEEK pubs dart team booked their place in the national finals of a prestigious darts tournament at the weekend.
The Dyers Arms on Macclesfield Road travelled to Coventry on Sunday for the regional finals, where they beat The White Horse from Telford 6-4 to secure their place in the finals of the Punch Darts Classic.
After leading 3-2 going into the singles, Dyers then fell behind after defeats for both Tony Banks and James Hughes.
Neil gBullseyeh Rutter levelled things with a trademark bull finish before Nick Schonau kept his composure, taking out 114 to give Dyers a 5-4 lead.
Mark Mellor then coolly made light work of his opponent to give Dyers the victory and leave Jason Sales breathing a huge sigh of relief that it didnft go to a decider.
Dyers will now go on to play in the grand finals at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on October 26.
