LEEK's town centre has come out as being one of the top ten high streets in the country.
The Telegraph newspaper have been running a initiative to find out which town has the best 'high street' in the country.
The Telegraph’s year-long “Reinventing the High Street” campaign aims to put the heart back in our traditional high streets and regenerate our historic shopping communities for future generations.
Nominations have been sent in to The Telegraph and Leek has made it in to the short list of 10 potential high streets of the year.
Judging is set to take place next week, led by high street minister Brandon Lewis MP, and the judging categories include: mixture of chains / indies (a good mix is best), standard of buildings, empty shop rate, traffic and parking, events held to entice visitors, cleanliness and local groups that support the high street.
