The former mill and house is up for sale. Are the council doing the right thing by selling it?

Despite a 2,000 strong petition, a decision was made in 2012 to close the mill and house on the corner of Buxton Road and Weston Street in Leek.

The building was previoulsy home to Leek Day Nursery which was praised by Ofstead and a day centire for the elderly. These facilities have now been closed by the council.

Now the property is up for sale with offers in the region of £150,000 being invited. Many people feel that the Leek community are losing vital services by the council selling this publicly owned building.

However, the council argue that the sell-off will generate funds which will benefit the public and see this as a positive move as opposed to leaving the building empty.
