Leek Town 6 Rainworth Miners Welfare 0
BLUES hit managerless Rainworth for six as the curtain went up on their new Evo-stik Northern Premier League campaign.
Blues destroyed the visitors after racing into a two-goal lead with less than 10 minutes gone, and they went in at the break three goals to the good after netting a third shortly before the half-hour mark.
Leek continued to punish Rainworth in the second half and added two further goals without reply in a devastating three minute spell before hammering the final nail from the spot in added time.
Defenders Darren Chadwick and Ashley Jackson and striker Liam Shotton all made their league debuts after joining Leek during the closed season.
Blues swept into the lead after just three minutes when Dan Shelley's speculative shot from 25 yards was fumbled over the line by veteran keeper Neil West.
Five minutes later Leek increased their lead following a Matt Bell corner that was cleared only as far as Sam Hall who drilled home from the edge of the box.
The home side withstood some Rainworth pressure before netting a third goal in the 27th minute, following another good move finished off by Bell from the edge of the box.
After the break, Blues went further ahead in the 56th minute when Shelley and Maguire combined to set up Jackson, who lifted a shot over the keeper from 20 yards out to record his first goal for the club.
Within three minutes, Leek netted a fifth goal when Maguire drove home following good work by Shelley and Jackson.
In the 75th minute, Grice went down injured during the move and he took no further part in the game.
This meant that Blues had to play out the final 15 minutes with 10 men, having already used all their permitted substitutes.
As play drifted into four minutes of added time, Shelley won a race for the ball with the hapless Rainworth keeper before lifting the ball over him, only to be brought down inside the box.
Kinsey claimed the ball and made no mistake from the spot and the job was done.
