As road works in Leek town centre move to a second phase, shops are stressing that they are still open for business.

And Leek Town Mayor John Fisher is joining in on that appeal.

Councillor Fisher said: "Businesses at the Monument end of town have endured road works upon road works. But at last they can breathe a big sigh of relief as the scheduled works move beyond the Market Street junction of Derby Street towards Russell Street. As we move to the Easter holiday period, they wish to proclaim 'we are truly open for business'. So let's all support our independent shops as they at long last can get back to normal.

"I think the new pavements are looking good and together with the extra greening promised from Moorlands Partnership, Leek's main street looks fit for the 21st century."
