Leek Swimmers are punching well above their weight again

LEEK swimmers once again punched well above their weight at the COSACSS open meet, finishing second overall.

Twenty-six members represented the Leek club, swimming in 176 races and winning an impressive 49 medals – 10 golds, 18 silvers and 21 bronzes.

Four children achieved times that qualify them for the regional meet later this year: Alesia Sollaku, 100m backstroke; Eleanor Cartlidge, 200m freestyle; Jensen Hulbert, 200m freestyle, and David Fryer-Winder, 200m IM.

Among the top medal winners were Emma Ashley, one gold, three silvers and three bronzes; Oliver Barlow, four silvers and one bronze; Arianna Bendall three golds, a silver and bronze; Abbie Hulbert, two golds, one silver and two bronzes; Sam Yates three bronzes; Joe McGourlay two silvers and a bronze; Eleanor Cartlidge two bronzes and one gold.

There were many other excellent performances, with most children achieving new personal times in one or more of their races.

The club's Chris McFadden said she was impressed with the overall performance of the club, with great achievements by children in all age groups.
