Leek Rugby Club 2nd XV are taking the step up into league competition

Captaining the team in the Staffordshire Second Team League will be the club's director of rugby, Neil Edge, pictured.

Last year's skipper, Joe Cooper, has been promoted to team manager.

The seconds make their league debut away to Burntwood on Saturday, September 13.

Stoke seconds are the visitors to Esterchem Park the following weekend.

Edge, whose objective is develop a team good enough to provide quality back up for the 1st XV, said: "We will taking a positive attitude and treating each game very seriously.

"With the first team playing at a higher level for the first time – Midlands One West – we will need to have good players on hand to provide cover for injuries and holidays."

The seconds are also seeking a physio with first aid skills to look after the needs of the team on match days.
