FORMER Newcastle Falcons star Carlo De Fava is the guest speaker at Leek Rugby Club's players' dinner in the clubhouse on Friday, June 13. De Fava played for Italy in the 2004 Six Nations tournament but was forced to retire in February because of a neck injury.
Over the coming weeks, the main pitch at Esterchem Park will undergo some large scale drainage work, thanks to funding from Sport England.
A club spokesman said: "This is planned to improve future use of that pitch area for all sections within the club. It is planned not to have any major effect on the cricket and will be in use for the start of the season."
An invitation to play adult touch rugby has received a good response. Almost 30 people turned up for a taster session at Leek Rugby Club last Thursday evening.
Director of rugby Neil Edge said: "I was really pleased to see such a good turnout, which included two ladies."
The session will be repeated at Leek's ground at Esterchem Park, Cheddleton tomorrow (Thursday) evening, from 7pm until 9pm.
The club is staging a six-a-side touch rugby tournament on Friday, June 6.
Leek are looking to expand their playing membership for the new season by introducing a new veterans team and a ladies team.
