WORKS are to be carried out to correct some minor problems with a major restoration of a war memorial.
Contractors are to revisit the Nicholson War Memorial in Leek to carry out some pointing work on the structure.
Leek Town Council, in conjunction with the Friends of the Nicholson War Memorial, were awarded £178,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to go towards the major refurbishment, completed in the Autumn of 2011.
However, Leek Town Mayor Pam Wood raised an issue of the state of some areas of the Monument at last months Town Council meeting.
Councillor John Povey, chairman of the Friends of the Nicholson War Memorial: “When working with limestone, the weather conditions need to be warm and dry.” The work is expected to take 90 minutes.
