PUPILS from Beresford Memorial First School in Leek celebrated World Book Day by being read a story by a professional footballer.
Port Vale striker Lee Hughes, pictured centre, took time out of his team’s promotion battle to attend the school and read part of a book to the youngsters.
Headteacher Carolyn Quinn said: "We are trying to promote reading and Lee read with some of the children.
“He also read to the whole class and stayed for two sessions. He then spoke to the children about what books he likes to read and then answered some questions before signing autographs.
"The children were very pleased to have a professional footballer reading to them."
