Leek resident and businessman Roger Warrillow, a member of the Chimney Pot Preservation & Protection Society, has enlisted the support of Leek Town Mayor Councillor Pam Wood, in a bid to raise one million pennies – £10,000 – to help restore and reopen the National Chimney Pot Museum in Longport, Burslem.

Mr Warrillow is one of the founding members of the Chimney Pot Preservation & Protection Society five years ago.

However, the building in which the museum is housed in is in need of some urgent restoration works.

Mr Warrillow said: "The electrics need restoring at the museum and so too does the roof. There is a couple of thousand chimney pots at the museum – the only venue of its kind."

Mrs Wood said: “Those visiting the museum can continue on to see the lovely skyline of chimneys that our town has."

Anyone wishing to support the appeal can pop their pennies under the door of the vacant shop next door to Roger's Clock Shop at the top of Leek's Market Place. Alternatively, call 01538 398726.
