The new Four Towns Initiative between Leek, Cheadle, Uttoxeter and Ashbourne was officially launched on Saturday at Alton Towers hotel.

The scheme has been set up to help promote the four market towns jointly, initially through a promotional leaflet.

Almost 200 people turned out for the charity ball, which also included an auction and raffle, and raised more than £1,000 in aid of the four town mayors’ charity funds.

Leek Mayor, Councillor Pam Wood, said: “It was a great night and Alton Towers did us proud. I am hoping to forge closer links with Alton Towers in the future.

“There was a great atmosphere and we saw the launch of the new joint promotional leaflet for the four towns.

“I am convinced that this initiative will be very successful and will be mutually advantageous to all the towns involved.

“It was also nice for representatives of the four towns to have a get together and enjoy a social occasion together.”

As for what is next for the Four Towns initiative, Mrs Wood added: “We will now be planning the way forward to further promote our towns and to continue to build on the strong links we are gaining between each other.”

Mayor of Cheadle, Councillor Margaret Locker, said: “It was a most fantastic evening which was very well organised.

“The food and service were wonderful and the amount of people who supported us was fantastic.

“All in al the Four Towns initiative is going very well. We will now start to move forward on different projects and see how we can come together to support each other further.
