Man accused of murdering student

A man has been charged with the murder of a gap year student stabbed to death in the street.

Imran Akhtar Hussain, 26, of Tilehurst Lane, Bracknell, Berkshire, is accused of the murder of 18-year-old Kieran Crump Raiswell in Manchester on January 16.

Hussain will appear in court on Thursday morning, Greater Manchester Police said.

Hussain has also been charged with common assault in relation to an incident in Nottingham on January 4.

Mr Crump Raiswell, described as a "caring and quiet" teenager, died after he was stabbed in the heart while walking along the street in broad daylight in an apparently motiveless attack.

On a gap year before starting university, his family said the youngster "had his whole life ahead of him", and may have been intending to hand out his CV to shops and businesses when he was attacked in Whalley Range, south Manchester, last Wednesday afternoon.

He was given first aid by a passing fire crew but his injuries proved too severe and he later died in hospital. A post-mortem examination concluded he died from a stab wound to the chest.

Mr Crump Raiswell lived with his father, an interpreter, and mother, a council worker, along with a younger brother and sister in the Chorlton area of south Manchester.

He was due to go to Sheffield Hallam University in the autumn to study history. In a statement, the family described him as a loving, caring, quiet and easy-going young man.

Hussain is due to appear at Trafford Magistrates' Court on Thursday to face the charges.
