ON Wednesday 5th March, The Lions Club of Leek held their monthly meeting at the Red Lion. With Lion President Les Critchlow presiding and opening the meeting with a toast to Lions International and The Lions Club of Leek.

The club welcomed our guests for the evening Vice District Governor Lion Carol Godden and her husband Lion Edward Godden and also Mr Ed Tylman.

Lion President Les informed club members that sadly Lion Katy Owen of Stoke on Trent Lions Club has passed away.

The club will be represented at Katy's forthcoming funeral.

Also on a lighter note Lion President informed the club that preparations are well in hand for our annual Christmas party, which takes place at the Rudyard Hotel on Saturday, March 29.

Tickets are available and all are welcome. However places are limited.

Please contact any member of the club if you wish to attend.

Vice District Governor Carol made membership awards to Lion President Les, Lion John Demaid-Jones and Lion Graham Dow in recognition of their recent work in recruiting new members.

On Tuesday 4th March the club along with the other 7 clubs in our zone took part in the annual Waterworld Event for Special Needs Children, some 610 young people from all over the county attended and a good time was had by all.

We have already received thank you letters from Walton Hall and Newcastle Adventure playground.

On Friday 7th March Lion President Les and Lions Lynda and John Demaid-Jones, Lions Pat and Graham Dow attended Endon High School to present a cheque in support of the pupil's trip to Nepal.

Also the Young Leaders in Service Award scheme was introduced to the school.

This international community signature project is sponsored by Lions International and is recognised worldwide. Whilst in Kathmandu the high school students recognised the support from the local Lions club of Kathmandu.

This is a very young club and funds are very limited at this early stage of their formation.

Members of the club will be on duty in Sainsbury's on 6th April collecting for the annual Daffodil day in support of Douglas Macmillan Cancer.

Don't forget The Lions Club of Leek annual (always late) Christmas party at the Rudyard Hotel on Saturday 29th March. Tickets are available from any member of the club.

A date for your diaries Saturday October 11th the club will be holding a concert at which the Dalesman Choir will be entertaining. More details will follow soon.

The Lions Club of Leek wish to clarify that we are part of the largest Service Organisation in the world and support those less fortunate than ourselves not only locally but worldwide.
