THREE Leek Golf Club members have represented Staffordshire seniors in the first-ever inter-counties match against Derbyshire at Wolstanton Golf Club.
Club captain Dave Gallimore (h'cap 4), Duncan Stott (1) and Ross Martin (1) were selected to play in both the mornings greensomes and the afternoon's 4BBB.
All of these matches are played off scratch and teams and made up of 12 players from all over the county.
Stott and Martin were paired together for the greensomes and it proved to be a very successful pairing running out winners by a two and one margin.
Gallimore was paired with the county's senior captain Tony Wright, from Little Aston, and only managed a half when their opponents holed out for a birdie three from off the green at the last.
Staffordshire had a 4 -2 lead to take into the afternoon fourballs.
The afternoon saw some changes to the pairings and Stott was once again successful, playing with Glenn McBryde, from Stone, winning seven and six.
Gallimore won his match just as convincingly by six and five, playing with Mark Ashton from Ingestre, but unfortunately Martin lost in his match.
Stott on achieved a maximum three points on his debut as Staffordshire went on to win 12-6.
All three players were again selected to play a combined Shropshire/Herefordshire team at Market Drayton.
Again all three Leek members acquitted themselves well but due to the weather conditions and the water logging of the course the match was abandoned midway through the afternoon.
The match finally ended all square at 9-9.
