Grindon villagers prepare for annual hedgehog rolling festival

FINAL preparations are being made for a unique hedgehog rolling festival this Sunday, July 13.

The annual event, which opens at 1.30pm, will take place on the village green in Grindon.

There will be adult and children's races, which start at 2pm.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy the contents of several stalls, refreshments, a tug-of war-and games for visitors on the green, while entertainment will be provided by the Black Dog Molly Dancers.

A spokesman for the event said: "We require racers to take part and the hedgehog cones will be supplied.

"We welcome everyone to the event"

The cones are swept around the course by competitors using brooms.

Proceeds will go the help fund the village hall.
