A FORMER industrial mill which has been utilised as a day centre and nursery for several years has been sold within just a few weeks of coming onto the open market.

The mill, on the corner of Buxton Road and Weston Street, Leek, was offered for sale by estate agent Bury & Hilton following instructions from Staffordshire County Council.

The ground floor of the building was previously the home of Leek Day Nursery, but in 2012 the county council decided to close it despite more than 2,000 people signing a petition in protest at the closure.

The facility, which has been praised by Ofsted, cared for up to 49 children aged five and under, many of whom had learning difficulties.

The first floor was used as a day centre for the elderly.

However, this facility was also closed by the council last year.

The two storey property stands on a site of approximately 0.398 and has mains gas, electricity, water and drainage and also gas fired central heating.

The agents were asking for offers in the region of £150,000 for the premises.
