THIS Sunday sees very best of local junior cricket on show in the Moorlands.

Cheadle Cricket Club will be hosting the inaugural Kidsgrove & District League under-17s T20 Finals Day at their Tean Road ground.

Cheadle under-17s have enjoyed a fantastic season, remaining unbeaten throughout their campaign to run out comfortable winners of their section.

They will be joined on Finals Day by the three other sectional winners – Stone, Hem Heath and Sandyford.

In addition to their league success, Cheadle have also excelled in the cup competitions, reaching the final of the Noel Banks Trophy, which unfortunately fell victim to the weather on Sunday.

Cheadle's only defeat to date came in a thrilling high-scoring league cup semi-final clash with Moddershall.

After being put into bat by their hosts, Cheadle amassed a formidable total of 235-2 from their 40 overs.

Opener Andy Coxon was in imperious form, finishing on 109 not out, and with excellent support from Jack Hassall, Ryan Day and Jonny Clowes, Cheadle were confident of securing a place in the final.

However, dropped catches were to cost them dearly. An unusually poor bowling and fielding performance saw the hosts knock off the total for the loss of six wickets with one over remaining.
