A JOBS fair will be taking place in Leek next week.

A joint venture between Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) and Your Moorlands, the Building Trade and Jobs Fair will be taking place at Moorlands House on Stockwell Street between 12 noon and 7pm on Wednesda (November 27).

The event is open to job seekers and local businesses and will include networking events, one to one business discussions, presentations regarding the procurement process, Q&A session with the contractors and advice for job seekers.

The event will enable local suppliers and sub-contractors to meet representatives of the main construction contractor 'Seddon' who will be offering two separate half hour workshops with question and answer sessions to assist businesses in applying for available contracts. These workshops are offered on a first come basis and can be pre-booked.

Martin Stevenson, Director for Your Moorlands said: “Ascent is keen to ensure local businesses are given the best opportunity to bid for available work and to help retain and create local employment opportunities. We are delighted to offer an invitation to local suppliers and businesses to attend this trade Fair to learn how to tender for the supply of goods and services for the above schemes and register their interest in future contracts for the remainder of the Ascent build programme.”

In 2012 twenty-five local residents registered an interest in Apprentice positions at the trade/job fair, and out of those 25 applicants 17 passed the Health & Safety skills test and 16 are now in full time employment. Six local youths who were identified via Your Moorlands Employment and Skills officer are now also undergoing an Apprentice programme with the Principal contractor (Southdale).
