NATIONAL Inclusion Week is an annual week of workplace activities and events across the UK that highlight the importance and value of inclusion in the workplace. It takes place from Monday (October 7) until Friday, October 11. It is a unique opportunity to get connected to people who are passionate about inclusion in the workplace and beyond.
Georgina Smith of Leek Dyslexia and literacy Support said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for employers to focus on all elements of inclusion, however it’s also a time to raise awareness of dyslexia in the workplace."
The organisation, Inclusive Employers is holding many events throughout the main cities and they can be found on their web page. However they also ask employers to follow and take part in their tweets to learn more. http://www.nationalinclusionweek.co.uk/about
They also ask employers to find out how much you and your colleagues know about inclusion by doing the National Inclusion Week quiz.

Georgina added: "It is not unusual for individuals to reach adulthood and not be diagnosed with dyslexia. If asked, most people would think dyslexia is just about reversing letters and having difficulty with literacy. In fact dyslexia can impact far wider than this and can often affect skills in the workplace, other than literacy related skills.
"It’s not unusual for employees to be struggling in the workplace and it to be a result of dyslexia. Dyslexia can impact on, organisational skills, copying skills, working memory skills and communication skills, to name but a few and this can have an impact on skills at work.
"It’s often the case that adults have carried around their concerns for years wondering why they have difficulties. Being assessed can be a worrying process however it can often alleviate lifelong concerns and enable them to have a better understanding of themselves."
“It would be great if this week could be used as an opportunity for employers and employees to learn more about dyslexia in the workplace and build a dyslexia friendly environment in the workplace, fostering a culture where employees have the confidence to disclose their concerns to employers, where co-workers could have a better understanding of how dyslexia can affect their colleagues and for employers to have the knowledge how to support their employees at work."
Leek Dyslexia and Literacy Support continue to offer dyslexia assessments for all ages, including adults in the workplace.
