HUNDREDS turned out today for an annual Good Friday tradition in Leek town centre.

Church members, residents and visitors congregated at the foot of the Nicholson War Memorial for this year’s Good Friday outdoor service and procession through the market town.

After a short service led by Salvation Army Major Rudi Pilsel, a large wooden cross was carried through town by Salvation Army member 72-year-old Ernie Salt, who was followed by a procession of several hundred people.

Ernie led the procession to the Butter Cross in Leek’s Market Place where Major Pilsel led another short service.
