PROPOSALS to build 11 houses on the edge of Leek have been thrown out.

Members of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s planning application committee refused to give permission for the development on land at Bridge End, Macclesfield Road, despite planning officers recommending approval.

The site is occupied by two large reservoir pits and lies at the edge of the settlement boundary in close proximity to Leek cricket ground.

Members threw out the application following debate where it was felt the development would destroy the visual impact of the area.

See next week’s Post and Times for the full meeting report.
