HOLLYWOOD came to Leek as Michael Winslow, star of the Police Academy films, performed a one-off gig at Leek Comedy Club.

The star, known as The Man Of 1,000 Voices, found fame in the high-grossing comedy cop saga as sound effects master Larvelle Jones.

He said: "I really loved it. I'm really grateful to Leek for having me. It's a great crowd you have here."

Leek Comedy Club's John Woodhouse added: "It was a real team effort to bring Michael to The Foxlowe. We were only offered the gig the week before, so it just shows what can be done. I spoke to Michael afterwards and he clearly loved it; there's even talk of him returning in the future."
