LEEK entered an under-14s team to play in the Chase Park Cup competition at Cannock on Saturday.

The tournament was an opportunity to start preparations for the forthcoming season.

The majority of the team comprised last season’s under-13s, plus three debutants.

Leek’s first game was against a very strong Lichfield side, who scored three goals in each half.

This was despite Adam Knott making a string of good saves in the Leek goal.

Leek recovered from this loss against Streetly, only to be thwarted in a goalless draw.

They then faced a challenging game against Leicester, which looked like it was heading for another stalemate.

It took a defensive error to give Leicester victory with a simple tap-in at the back post.

Leicester then doubled their lead to put the game beyond Leek.

Having lost two of their first three games without scoring, Leek faced a mixed agegroup team from Cannock.

The Leek defence held firm until halftime, with good performances from Joe Knott, Dan Lomax and debutant Jordan Taylor Leek went looking for their first goal of the day at the start of the second half.

It came from a long ball from Callum Bell which found Will Hodgson to calmly beat the keeper.

However, one of Cannock’s older players broke into the area to levek the scores.

This proved to be a useful day out for Leek, as they build towards their appearance in this year’s national cup competition.
