TWO former users of a child care facility are now all grown up and work at the venue themselves.

Twenty-year-old Megan Birch- Machin used to attend Buckingham’s Nursery in Leek as a toddler.

She also used to attend the Buck’s Kids After school club that the company runs.

Megan, who has been working as an Early Years Assistant for more than a year, said: “I remember bits about the nursery such as the pre-school room.

“I used to love playing in the homecorner with the little kitchen.

“I am still friends with a lot of people who also attended here as young children.” After Buckingham's Nursery, Megan attended Westwood First, St Edward’s Middle, and then Westwood High schools before starting an apprenticeship at her old nursery.

She said: “I did a year’s apprenticeship and was then employed full-time.

“I really enjoy it and it’s brilliant here.

“It was strange coming back here to work, but I felt comfortable about being here because I was already familiar with the nursery.” Sixteen-year-old Lily Jacquemart, from Leek, is currently carrying out work experience at Buckingham’s Nursery.

She used to attend the facility herself as a baby. She said: “I had my first birthday party here and stayed until I started school.

“I remember the rooms being a bit different to what they are now but it is all very familiar.

“I remember the staff reading stories to us and I also remember the other children I used to play with.

“ I had happy times here as a young child.” Lily has been carrying out two days a week of work experience at Buckingham’s over the school holidays after completing her GCSEs at Westwood College.

Next month she will be studying childcare at Buxton College.

She said: “When I started looking to do some work experience over the summer holidays I thought, straight away, about asking Buckingham’s.

“It has been nice. I have been working with the three to five-yearolds in the pre-school room.

“I would really like to work here fulltime eventually."

Nursery manager Dawn McCuskery said: “I think it’s good that we have young ladies who used to attend the nursery themselves coming to work for us.

“It’s what we are all about as providers of child care – to encourage well-being.

“It is great that we have inspired Megan and Lily to be child carers themselves and to work with us here as they had such a good time when they attended as young children."

The bespoke child care facility of Buckingham’s Nursery opened its doors in 1997.

It caters for children up to the age of five, and the business also operates a number of After School Clubs around Leek.
