Former Leek Golf Club star Julie Brown has won the English senior women's championship at the first attempt

The 50-year-old top seed, formerly of Cellarhead and now living in Stafford, beat past winner Chris Quinn two-and-one in the final at Sandy Lodge Golf Club, near Watford.

"I can't believe it – it feels absolutely brilliant," she said.

Brown got into the swing of golf as a youngster at Leek.

She is now a member at Trentham Golf Club and is county junior organiser for Staffordshire.
