Staffordshire County Girls U16 League
Bilbrook Ladies 0 Leek Town U16 Girls 3
LEEK Town U16 girls, pictured above, moved up to third place in the Staffordshire County League with this victory, with only two points separating the top four teams.
The visitors went on the attack from the start and Alice Naden went close with a good effort in the first few minutes.
Bilbrook could not get past the Leek defence and were reduced to long-range shots, easily caught by keeper Hannah Austin.
Elise Skelding ran past three Bilbrook players down the wing and won a corner, from which Katie Maya opened the scoring with a deflected shot. Leek remained on top after the restart and forced the Bilbrook keeper to make several good saves.
Ten minutes into the second half, the ball was picked up by Maya on the edge of the box and she shot low into the corner of the net to make it 2-0.
Bilbrook tried to get back into the game but could not penetrate Leek’s back four of Emma Smith, Charlotte Bromley, Isabel Wretham and Mollie Shaw. Rosie Atkinson and Chloe Gerrity were brought on for Leek and both performed well.
With 10 minutes to go, the ball again came to Maya, who went round two Bilbrook players before firing into the roof of the net, shooting from 25 yards out.
Leek: Hannah Austin, Emma Smith, Isabel Wretham, Charlotte Bromley, Mollie Shaw, Lucy Kelsall, Amber Stanway, Katie Maya, Elise Skelding, Kirsty Ryder, Alice Naden, Becky Rothwell, Rosie Atkinson, Chloe Gerrity.
