A GATHERING of all things folk will be taking place in the Staffordshire Moorlands this weekend.
Manifold Valley Folk Gathering is quite simply, a small yet perfectly formed weekend of folk music; a grand gathering of friends old and new organised by Peace through Folk.
It will be staged this year in the village of Alstonefield from Friday until Sunday.
Folk musicians and singers will be sharing music, songs and fellowship in an informal atmosphere and enjoying performances from some of our favourite national folk celebrities and some of the immensely talented local folk acts.
These will include: His Worship and the Pig, Flossie Malavialle, Keith Donnelly, Marie Little, Hissyfit, Piva, Festival Ceilidh Band, 9/10ths Below, Trim Rig and a Doxy, Birdscarers, Rick Ford, Pete Shirley, Sons of Clogger, Anna Shannon, Brian Bull, John Williams plus many more.
Growing from a great tradition, the 2013 Folk Gathering will take place at the new location of Alstonefield, just three miles south of Hulme End where last year's gathering was held.
The hosting venues this year will include Alstonefield Memorial Hall and Community Centre, a main marquee and the 12th century St Peter's church.
On Friday, there will be a ceilidh as well as a singers style folk club, singarounds, and a musicians session.
On Saturday the Gathering begins officially at 1pm to mark the start of the International Day of Peace and a peace concert to launch 'Peace 14–18' followed by concerts, and music related workshops including harmonies, song writing, ukuleles and even bell ringing. There will also be singarounds, sessions and concerts both in the day and the evening.
On Sunday Pete Shirley and friends will be at St Peter’s Church for Sunday Sing and workshops. Concerts and singarounds will again be staged in hall and the marquee in the afternoon as well as a Folk Club, concerts and singarounds in the evening.
Ticket numbers are limited and are priced at £20 for Saturday and Sunday, £24 all weekend or just the Friday Ceilidh ticket for £10.
