Funeral takes place of Denis Welch of Dilhorne

THE funeral takes place tomorrow of an amateur racing driver who died in a Silverstone crash.

Businessman Denis Welch, of Dilhorne, pictured was pronounced dead soon after the crash at the Northamptonshire circuit last month.

The 69-year-old was driving a 1960 Lotus 18 when it careered off the track on the opening lap of a race for pre-1966 grand prix cars.

The Motor Sports Association – the UK's official motor sport governing body – has launched an investigation into the crash.

Denis founded the Staffordshire-based Denis Welch Motorsport car parts business.

His funeral takes place at the Church of the Holy Angels, in Hoar Cross, near Lichfield, at 11am on Thursday.
