FAMILIES are being invited to take part in a free activity day in a town's main park today.

The event at Brough Park in Leek, which runs today (Wednesday) between 10am and 3pm, is part of the national celebration of Play Day.

The event has been organised and supported by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Friends of Brough Park and many volunteers.

Organiser Erica Taylor said: "It promises to be a great family day out which offers free activities and demonstrations for everyone to enjoy.

"It will be an excellent opportunity to find out what is available during the school holidays for children from other organisations who are supporting the day, providing their time and services freely.

"An information desk can be located within the marquee together with a timetable of displays taking place on the day."

Leek's Play Day 2013 has been sponsored by many organisations. Erica added: "This is a fantastic event for our families in Leek and around the Staffordshire Moorlands.

"Youngsters can try their hand at go-karting (sponsored by Margaret Lovatt, Darren Price and Charlotte Atkins from the Councillors Community Initiative Funding), Stanley Head Climbing Wall (sponsored by Your Moorlands)."

Anyone wishing to help organise next year's Play Day in Leek can contact Erica on 01298 687162.
