GILBERT & Sullivan's first full-length success will be performed at Buxton Opera House this weekend.
The young and vibrant Oxbridge Opera Company will be presenting their rendition of The Sorcerer at the Buxton venue on Friday (August 8) and Saturday as part of the opera house's celebration of G & S.
All the features found in G & S' later collaborations are contained in The Sorcerer together with some of the finest melodies Sullivan ever wrote.
The piece is based on a Victorian Christmas tale The Elixir of Youth that Gilbert wrote for The Graphic magazine in 1876. The story starts when a mysterious magic salesman brings a love potion to a rural village and people of all classes are powerless to its effects, with hilariously controversial results.
Oxbridge Opera Company has produced acclaimed productions of the Gilbert & Sullivan operas for the last four years.
Tickets for The Sorcerer at Buxton Opera House are priced at £20 and £23. Details and tickets: 0845 127 2190 or buy online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
