A FAMILY are celebrating after expanding their butty business and opening their own shop.
Clare and Charlie Pickford, of Daisy Bank, Leek, opened 'Pickford's Pantry' in Mill Street, Leek, on Monday, September 1.
The shop is an extension of their already thriving butty van business, which they have been running for the past 18 months.
Mrs Pickford said: "We still have the butty van which we park at Ball Haye Green Sports and Social Club Mondays to Fridays, and at The Winking Man in Upper Hulme on Blitz nights, and is really busy.
"We decided to open the shop due to customer demand and we get a lot of factory orders coming through which we couldn't keep up with on the butty van.
"We started looking around for premises and found out about this one in November last year.
"We spoke to our customers and they said it was a really good idea and they'd like to have somewhere to come and sit down to eat their food instead of standing outside or eating in their cars; especially builders and workmen who can't go in many places in their dirty work wear.
"We had a meeting with the landlord Your Moorlands in January this year and agreed a five-year lease which we signed in May.
"It has taken a while to get sorted as we had one or two teething problems, which have all been resolved, and we wanted to completely change the layout."
The couple are continuing to run the butty van as well as providing catering for functions and offering a 'Meals-on-Wheels' service.
They have recruited two new full-time staff members to help and are looking to take on more part-time staff in the near future.
'Pickford's Pantry' is open seven days a week, from 6.30am to 2pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 1pm Saturdays, and 8am until noon on Sundays.
Food is available to eat in, take away or delivered, and meals include Sunday roast dinners. For more information call 01538 372230.
