Fall in number of jobless people

THE number of jobless people in North Staffordshire fell by 0.1 per cent compared with a year ago.

A total of 11,924 people claimed Jobseekers' Allowance in August – a change of -1,297 compared to the same month last year.

In Staffordshire Moorlands, the number of unemployed fell 0.3 per cent, with a total of 974 people submitting claims in August.

In Stoke-on-Trent, 7287 people made claims in August, -0.5 per cent on 12 months ago.

The number of jobless people in Newcastle-under- Lyme fell 0.1 per cent compared with a year ago.

Office for National Statistics figures show 2,153 people claimed Jobseekers Allowance in August.

Meanwhile, jobless claims in Stafford fell 0.4 per cent, with a total of 1,510 people claiming Jobseekers Allowance in August, a change from -241 compared to 12 months earlier.
