ENDON WI has a new secretary after eight years.
Endon WI's May event was the annual meeting, when members heard reports from the committee about the institute's current situation, which is in fact very healthy – 36 full members including five new this year, as well as six ladies joining from Orford WI, which sadly closed recently.
The committee reported a full and varied programme of speakers and events, and the Treasurer's report was likewise healthy. There have been several successes in group meeting competitions, and members Mrs Mary Booth and Mrs Ina Porter received certificates and badges marking their 50 years of WI membership.
Mrs Margaret Bailey, WI Adviser, supervised the election of the new committee, which is not really an accurate description, as the entire committee was re-elected, with Mrs Barbara Wells being returned as President.
The only change is the post of Secretary, which will be taken by Mrs Sue Booth, who replaces Mrs Audrey Sutton, standing down after eight years, during which time she has undertaken a variety of tasks including supervising the spring show judging, and generally ferreting out information.
Mrs Wells thanked Audrey on behalf of the WI then presented Audrey with a cut glass vase as a token of appreciation from Endon WI. But it won't be the end of Audrey, as she is remaining on the committee.
Mrs Dorothy Bradbury thanked the committee for their hard work, and Mrs Val Myatt thanked Mrs Bailey who had also explained the resolution concerning organ donation, which was passed unanimously. This will be Endon WI's vote at the Annual General Meeting at Leeds in June.
