Dozens of delegates have attended a high profile conference which explored new ways of working together to better protect the people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service teamed up with Staffordshire Police to host the event, which was supported by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire Matthew Ellis.
Partner organisations including local councils, the health service, housing associations and representatives of the voluntary sector also attended the meeting which was held at the Police Headquarters on Weston Road, Stafford.
The delegates discussed how to collaborate more closely with each other to achieve positive results to broad, complex social issues.
They looked at the innovative ‘E-Cins’ system, a secure, encrypted cloud based service which makes it easier and more accessible for partners to share information which could benefit the residents they are working with.
It provides a ‘virtual partnership’ where different organisations and individuals can access information about offenders who have a high risk of returning to crime as well as relating to vulnerable members of the community.
Station Manager Mark Walchester, who organised the conference, said: “The event was incredibly positive, with lots of organisations attending and supporting the ethos of sharing information more closely. On a national scale we have previously seen the problems that can arise when vital information slips through the net. The consequences can be devastating. The public sector partners in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent already have a very solid relationship and this efficient and effective E-Cins system will only serve to further strengthen that in the future.”
Chief Superintendent Jon Drake, from Staffordshire Police, said: "It was a pleasure to be involved in the E-Cins conference and to hear first-hand from other areas about how the system has been used to enhance partnership working. We have strong partnership working in Staffordshire and the system is clearly complimentary to this work. We will look forward to working even more closely with partners to explore wider use of this system across the force area."
Mr Ellis said: “Sharing appropriate information across the public sector can change chaotic lives, keep people safer, reduce offending and save tax-payers’ money – which is why E-Cins is such a good idea. Information sharing is often the theme when things go wrong, so I’ve offered funding to agencies to assist with the technology to do this. E-Cins will help make sure that all agencies put the needs of the vulnerable at the heart of public services.”
