THERE have been incidents reported across the county recently in which elderly people have been victims of distraction offences.
Incidents have usually occurred in supermarkets and involve teams of offenders watching over elderly shoppers' shoulders and watching them input their PIN numbers at the checkout.
They then follow them out to the car park and distract them, sometimes using the excuse that they need directions using a map, before stealing their bank cards and quickly withdrawing large amounts of cash.
Ken Rickard, of Neighbourhood Watch said: "Could you please warn your neighbours, especially the elderly and vulnerable, to be vigilant while out shopping and to make sure no-one is watching over their shoulder when using cash machines or paying for goods."
Any suspicious behaviour should be reported to the police immediately.
