THE Dyers Arms in Leek booked their place in the regional finals of the Punch Classic on Sunday night.
The darts competition (the biggest pub knock-out in Britain) is in its 10th year and this is the second time the Dyers have progressed this far.
Two weeks ago, a strong Princess Royal side from Longton took home a 6-5 lead with them after their trip to the Dyers, but Paul Richardson’s team of Andy Beardmore, Mark Mellor, James Hughes, Tony Banks, Nick Schonau and Neil Rutter were confident they could overturn that result.
The first six matches of the night were shared equally in a closely contested match, before wins from Beardmore, Hughes and Banks put them within touching distance of the finals.
Nick Schonau then held his nerve to give the Dyers a 7-4 victory on the night and a 12-10 aggregate win to book their place in the regional finals in Coventry on September 15.
In addition to the team who played on Sunday night, Paul will be taking Craig Dunn Fox and Jason Sales in his eight strong squad as they now aim to make the national finals at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens later in the year.
