The Red Lion Pub at Boundary wins second award thanks to owner

THE RED Lion Inn at Boundary has just won it's second 'Award for Excellence', voted for by its customers.

Husband-and-wife owners Matt and Vicky have worked very hard to establish the Red Lion's reputation for quality and locally sourced homemade food.

The quality of the food really sets it apart from the mass produced, budget options so widely available these days.

Matt says: "It's not fine dining – rather pub food with restaurant quality at a low price."

Matt and Vicky have even more reason to celebrate with the recent arrival of their third child, Imogen.

Matt said: "Our larger family means we have chosen to currently not open for lunch Monday to Thursday so that we can have a bit of a family life.

"But we are open every day for drinks and serve food Wednesday evening to Sunday lunch."

One of the offers customers can take advantage of at the Red Lion at the moment includes a free starter or dessert if you dine before 6pm Wednesday to Saturday, or at lunchtime on Friday and Saturday.

Having purchased the pub back in 2006, Matt and Vicky have gone from strength to strength, paying particular attention to the production of food and in particular their home-made pies.

These are of the 'proper' variety, with tops and bottoms made from shortcrust pastry, and filled with slow-cooked delicious fillings.

Among the favourites are Chicken Ham and Leek, Four-Hour Slow Braised Steak and Ale, and a fresh Vegetarian Pie every week, such as Roasted Root Vegetable in a Tomato and Basil Sauce. Vicky said: "Having eaten at other places that serve microwaved stew in a dish with puff pastry lids, we know our pies are great. They're unique – we don't make them for anyone else."

The pub's extensive menu boasts something for every taste and guarantees fresh, quality food at a good price, with main courses from just £7.95.

They pub also prides itself on a menu which is 80 per cent gluten-free, and it will happily cater for all dietary requirements where possible with a little bit of notice. As a small freehold pub, reservations are advised but are not always necessary.

The Red Lion boasts a spectacular setting and views to match – a pub for all seasons ,offering a beautiful beer garden for customers to relax in during the balmy summer days and a roaring log fire during the winter. A warm welcome is always guaranteed!
