Youngsters at a village school have been joining in on this year's Commonwealth Day celebrations.

A Commonwealth flag raising ceremony took place at St Bartholomew's First School in Longnor on Monday.

The ceremony, at 10am, saw school governors, parents, staff and pupils being joined by Mayor of Leek John Fisher; Bishop of Stafford Rt Reverend Geoff Annas, Reverend James Forrester, councillor Jason Hails and Linda Orchard from Staffordshire Local Authority.

The flag was raised by Ken Dunn, chairman of Longnor Parish Council. The raising of the flag was accompanied by the Commonwealth youth choir singing the Commonwealth anthem and the school children finished the occasion by singing 'We Are One'.
