A HOST of businesses and organisations are taking part in a national charity day this week.

The Macmillan Cancer Support Biggest Coffee Morning will see lots of people across the country brew-up this Friday, September 27, in a bid to raise cash for the national charity.

We at the Post & Times will be staging a coffee morning offering coffees and teas along with cakes, baked and supplied by our own staff. Visitors are welcome to join us for a brew between 10.30am and 1.30pm on Friday.

Our office is based off the town’s bus station in The Smithfield Centre, in Haywood Street, Leek.

Meanwhile, down the road off Brook Street, Leek’s NFU Mutual will be hosting a similar coffee morning from 9am until 12.30pm. The staff there will also be offering home-made cakes.

The Leek franchise of Francesco’s Hairdressers will also be brewing up for their customers on Friday. The salon’s event will run from 10am until lunchtime. Staff will be offering a range of culinary delights including cakes, biscuits and flapjacks to accompany teas and coffees.

Meanwhile, two residents in Leek will be hosting a coffee morning at The Priory pub in Abbots Road from 9.30am onwards.

Victoria Rushton and Tanya Harrison have clubbed together to arrange the fund-raising event. Victoria said: “We saw the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning being promoted on the television and thought we would have an event as it is such a good cause.” The event is set to include a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, as well as the usual coffee morning refreshments.

Finally, solicitors at Bowcock and Pursaill in St Edward Street, Leek will also be brewing up for charity.

Staff at the law firm will be offering clients to drop-in to put their feet up and enjoy a coffee and cake between 10am and 2pm.

Ian Naylor, one of the partners at the firm, said: “We hope people will take advantage of this opportunity to take a short break with us to enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake in aid of a good cause.”
