Club stays at bottom of the table

CHEADLE remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the North Staffs & South Cheshire League First Division table after losing by four wickets to Moddershall.

Andrew Coxon's 76, allied to Sujith Nikethana's 34 and 32 from Hamza Siddique, enabled Cheadle to post 192-6.

Khalid Malik (3-18) and Kashif Bhatti (3-52) shared the wickets for Moddershall.

Matt Goodwin (49) top-scored in the run chase that followed, while Tom Ball (38) and Irfan Khan (36) also impressed to push Moddershall back to the top of the table.

Yasim Murtaza produced a batting masterclass in Whitmore's draw with Checkley.

Murtaza blazed his way to 150 not out, off just 146 balls, as Whitmore posted 278-4 declared.

He hit 17 fours and seven sixes in his innings, receiving excellent support from Richard Stonier (85) in a second-wicket partnership of 199.

Checkley were never in danger of losing as Nick Hunt's 50, plus an unbeaten 30 from Nick Hubble, guided them to 178-4 at the finish.

Checkley won their final Phoenix 15 Zone D fixture against Blythe to clinch the title and ensure they will be taking part in finals day on Sunday, August 31.
