Living up to their promise of bringing new and exciting live entertainment to the Queen of Moorlands, organisers of Leek Arts Festival have secured something completely different for this year's programme – an evening of burlesque.

Organised by local enthusiast Mina von Vixen, the dazzling display of music, dance and speciality performance acts will go ahead at The Foxlowe Arts Centre on May 11.

Artistes due to feature in The Silken Burlesque Varietease show – described as "cheeky and amusing rather than erotic" – include Adora Tickle, Lux de Lioux, Pansy Cheung, Venus Velvet and Fleur du Mal, as well as Mina von Vixen herself.

The evening will be compered by Cherry Lace with Steffi Woo as stage maid. In addition, Samara Casewell will be performing a contortion act.

Festival spokesman Phil Edmeades said: "Burlesque has a long heritage as an art form and it is one that is rapidly regaining popularity as ladies turn to it as a way of keeping fit or boosting their confidence.

"Mina von Vixen has assured us that there will be no full nudity and that everything the girls do will be, as the late Kenny Everett would say, 'in the best possible taste'.

"That said, the event is being advertised as strictly for over-18s only and anyone arriving at the event who looks under 18 will be asked to prove their date of birth."
