Checkley can breathe slightly easier

TROUBLED Checkley, fighting a battle against relegation, will be breathing slightly easier after securing a winning draw at home to Little Stoke.

Checkley were in trouble on 44-6, but Ben Smith (43) and Nick Hubble (35) dug deep to guide them to a face-saving 153 all out.

James Ecclestone and Tom Steele picked up 3-32 and 3-52 respectively for the visitors.

Little Stoke had 58 overs to knock off the runs and drew stumps just short on 151-9. Rob King top-scored with 27, while Richard Cooper (4-36) and Iftikhar Ashgar (4-46) restricted the Little Stoke reply.

Honours were also even in the corresponding Premier Division B clash between Checkley and Little Stoke.

Checkley posted 192-7 declared, with Kevin Whitehurst making 67, while Sam Parr took 4-50.

Little Stoke replied with 153-7, as James Sutherland made 38 to earn them a draw.
