A COST free, fun-packed and pioneering programme for children with disabilities will take place in Leek.
Caudwell Children will be delivering the Leek Key Steps Programme; a multi-activity initiative which will include World cookery, sailing, ranger days and commando fun fitness. It is designed to offer disabled children the opportunity to experience interactive activities aimed at developing their life skills.
Taking place at Foxlowe Arts Centre, Market Place, Leek; the ASDAN accredited course offers children with disabilities the chance to gain a recognised qualification and helps disabled children gain skills for employment and independent living.
Thanks to Caudwell Children, the programme will now be available to children with disabilities in the Staffordshire Moorlands area from Monday, August 19th to Friday, August 23rd.
During the week disabled children will complete exciting challenges and activities before graduating. The Key Steps course also includes an exciting new partnership between Caudwell Children and Sailability based at Rudyard Lake, who specialise in disability sailing.
Trudi Beswick, Chief Executive of Caudwell Children, said “We have been delivering ASDAN accredited workshops and courses for disabled children throughout the UK since 2011 and we have seen the huge difference the programme can make to children with disabilities.
Hundreds of children have completed the ASDAN project with Caudwell Children so far and we have seen fantastic results.
The courses offer a fun and exciting way to learn for children who find mainstream education difficult.
By working with third parties such as Sailability and Commando Joes we are able to continually develop the programmes to offer new and exciting activities moving forward.” Caudwell Children provide practical and emotional support for disabled children and their families living throughout the UK.
The initiative will also provide volunteering opportunities for people in the area.
Mrs Beswick, added “We will be recruiting volunteers from all walks of life to support the sessions during the summer holidays.
This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to gain new skills, work with children in the future or simply give back to their local community.
We give full training to all our volunteers and no previous experience is necessary.” The Leek Key Steps Programme will take place at Foxlowe Arts Centre, Market Place, Leek, ST13 6AD from Monday August 19th to Friday, August 23rd from 10am to 4pm.
