LEEK Bowling Club played four matches during the week,- all in the Stoke-on-Trent League.

In the men's league second division, Leek A faced newly-relegated Milton Recs A for the second week running and lost 153-134.

The green was surprisingly fast running for the time of year and games were close.

Leek had three winners from the eight cards: Alan Gayes and Harold Needham both returned 21-15 cards and Chris Hulme 21-18.

Leek B hosted Cheadle B and recorded a good 143-111 win, with five winners and three losers, the best winners being Bill James and Dave Stephenson.

In the ladies' league first division, Leek A beat local rivals Leek Park 122-113 away.

The best card was from Julie Watson (21-5), followed by Pat Alcock (21-10)and Pauline Alcock (21-14) while Maureen Turner weighed in with 20.

Leek B faced Pittshill Victory and romped home 137 -74 winners, with again Julie Watson (21-4) turning in the best card in a team depleted by holiday absences. Other big wins came from Sue Taylor (21-7), and Linda Walker and Irene Leigh, both 21-8.

LEEK Park A began their 2014 season in the Wednesday League with a 150-136 defeat away to Florence Colliery.

The visitors produced three winners. Martin Bowcock (21-10), Trevor Wardle (21-16) and Roy Tidmarsh (21-19).

Leek B overcame Florence Colliery A 149-128 at home.

Dave Johnson (21-7) claimed the sweepstake, having the biggest winning margin of Leek's six winners.

The Stoke-on-Trent League fixtures paired the club's A against B, with the former winning 133-115 points.

Kevin Walker (21-4) took the sweep, with Ray Smith (21-7 a close runner-up.)

Leek travelled to Werrington 2000 in the Staffordshire League, with several new players in their squad.

The visitors lost 202-107 with Nigel Heath (21-13) being their only winner.
