LEEK had a week of mixed fortunes, starting with the A team going down to a narrow defeat away to Congleton Cricket Club B in the Congleton League.

The Cricket B are a team extremely familiar with their home green, as the results confirmed.

A Leek team without Alan Gayes came away five chalks short of a draw.

The visitors produced three winners, the best of which was Joe Watson/Lazowski (21-13).

Leek B were outstanding against near-neighbours Leek Park, securing a maximum 168 to a disappointing 80 from the visitors. There were five single figure winners for Leek, the best being Pat Alcock (21-4).

In the Veterans League Division A, Leek A overcame Coronation B 155-129 at home, the best score among five winners was Alan Franklin (21-5).

Leek B had it all to do against a strong Coronation A, eventually going down 168-98, with a 20 score from Margaret Wood the best return.

Leek C lost 147-129 at home to Knypersley, with the only win coming from Jill Peacock.

A weakened Leek A went to third-placed Clough Hall in Division Two 2 and lost heavily, with only Chris Hulme winning his match.

Leek B had a close encounter at home to Oakhill, with five winners in their 145-139 win. Dave Hollinshead returned the best result.

The Ladies League saw Leek A playing their return fixture against Wolstanton away. The visitors repeated the previous week's win 140-83.

Leek B managed to reverse the previous week's result against Trent. Vale, winning 124 -106.

The challenge for the Uttoxeter League A team was to beat the accomplished Ashbourne team at Beggars Lane. With the green running a deal quicker than of late, the job was done with two wins each in the doubles, but 75 points to the home team against 60 to Ashbourne.

In the following singles, there were five home winners to three away and the final score read 225-184 in favour of Leek.

Leek B were at Sudbury and on the compact village green they had a struggle, eventually losing their first match of the season 208-195. There were big wins for Chris Plant and Joe Watson/Lazowski.
