LEEK had matches in four different leagues, resulting in varying success.

In the Stoke-on-Trent League, the A team recorded a good 156-141 win at Wolstanton Private, where Alan Gayes (21-9) mastered the rain as the best of the visitors' five winners.

The B team faced Barlaston Bowling and Tennis Club at Beggars and returned six winners, including four cards with single figure scores.

In the Congleton Veterans League, the A team lost 139-119 away to Rode Heath A, although the first four came off to the good, with two winners.

The B team went down 149-132 at home to champions Cricket Club in Division A. There were four Leek winners but the margins were too small. Norman Naylor did well to produce a 21-8 return.

The vets C team had two games. They lost at home to Cricket Club C but won convincingly away to Good Companions. Joe Bailey and Glennis Bloor won their games in both matches.

In the Stoke-on-Trent Ladies League, Leek A won a close encounter at home to Bucknall Private 119-116, mainly due to an outstanding score from Pat Alcock (21-2). The B team, after a good win at home to Pittshill, travelled to Florence Bowling and Tennis on a wet Friday night and returned a maximum 147-63 winning scoreline – a rare feat.

The Uttoxeter League began with the Leek B away to relegated Checkley. A hard game was expected, but the Leek team excelled to run out 238-171 winners, taking seven of the eight singles and three out of the four doubles.
